Traditional foundry production in ?t?pnov has its origins in 1572, when the first establishment of iron-mills was recorded. In the year 1753 the first foundry was inaugurated in the current location. The company, which had been struggling financially, was acquired on the 1st of July 1939 by Jan Matou?ek, who founded ?elezrny ?t?pnov a Company which through hard work and innovative ideas became famous for its production of various types of stoves (known under the brand name ?Majk?). The prosperity of the firm, exporting to the whole of Europe with its representation in Switzerland, was at its peak when it came under a severe blow by the nationalization and the subjugation of this privately company to the national enterprise, MEZ Brno. Stove production was substituted by the manufacture of items for the electrical industry.

In 1992, Jan and Milan Matou?ek, the beneficiaries of restitution, founded ?elezrny ?t?pnov, spol. s r.o. and in the following year, 1st June 1993 marked the additional restitution of the foundry ? which was in a catastrophic condition and immensely encumbered with debts. The volume of production in 1993 amounted to a mere 1,500 tons/year. It took several years of hard work, along with substantial investment into modern technology to make the foundry what it is today ? an ecologically safe highly productive and efficient foundry producing upwards of 8000 tons a year.
A new venture into Asia and Eastern Europe resulted in the formation of the Outsourcing division in 2006, which mainly facilitates sourcing of production in Asia ? namely China and India and also from Ukraine.
